Last Baby Standing, now with Online Multiplayer

Posted by jathak on January 28, 2011 at 1:19 AM Comments comments (0)

I have now added online multiplayer into Last Baby Standing.

I am now also making an EXE public (see link below) mainly because I noticed some problems with Flash that didn't occur with EXE.

I have now added a new versioning system for individual features to the now-named "Development Version"

Here is essentially how it works:

No Version - Coming Soon (Not yet started)

Versions 0.0.x - In Development (Being worked on, but not yet publicly released)

Versions 0.1.x/0.2.x - Alpha (Publicly available, but buggy/not well tested)

Versions 0.3.x or higher - Beta (Fully functional, with some bugs to work out)

Versions 1.0.x - Prerelease (Fully functional and fairly error free, but not yet a regular release)

Versions 1.1.x or higher - Regular version

Nothing will likely be upgraded to regular until I am ready to take the whole thing out of  "Development Version"

Current Versions:

-Two/Three Player Local (Prerelease 1.0.3)

-Four Player Local (In Development 0.0.1)

-Regular Online Play (Alpha 0.1.2)

-Menu and Chat (Prerelease 1.0.0)

-Team Local (Coming Soon)

-Team Online Play (Coming Soon)

Now for how the new online play works.

Instead of directly challenging an opponent, you create a game that anyone can join (private mode will probably be added later). The host can see everyone who has joined the game (there is a bug that some extra people show up though) and then choose when to hit play.

You don't actually see your opponent on your screen like in BBO. Instead, you just see a list of all players in the game along with their current live count. When they die, that live count will turn to their final score. Once all players die, it calculates what place you got (there is a bug in this too though) and displays it.

I decided to remove actually seeing your opponent because when you say your opponent in BBO, you didn't see their bubbles so it was kind of pointless. Plus, with multiple players it could get crowded.

The current build is Build 3 (there was a Build 2 that I did not release publicly).

Baby Bounce: Last Baby Standing and more

Posted by jathak on January 8, 2011 at 8:38 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi!

Sorry I haven't really had a chance to update much on the site recently.

First, I now have Multimedia Fusion 2, instead of just The Games Factory 2, so I have access to a lot of new stuff.

Baby Bounce is currently being updated to Baby Bounce 2.0. This is not a new game, but instead a renovation of the original. You can try Baby Bounce as it is being updated to 2.0 through the Flash version. It includes a new game engine (no more sticking to walls) and new art. The art is being released as it is made. Baby Bounce 2.0 also includes themes to choose different art. The currently available themes are: Classic (just like Baby Bounce 1.0), Default/New (new art, will become default when finished), Pencil (original sketches of the new art), and Colored Blocks (this was mainly just a testing thing for me).

Now that I have MMF2, I should be able to add more Mochi stuff to BB 2.0, such as Mochi Highscores.

As I mention in the title of this post, there is a new Baby Bounce version, Last Baby Standing. I actually started this a long time ago and intended it to be a multiplayer mode with multiple players on the same computer. Instead, I have decided add online play (similar to BB Online, but much better) in addition to local play. An alpha version in Flash is available to play now. This version does not yet have online play, but online chat and local play are both available. This version contains some UI elements that will be added to BB 2.0 shortly. If your computer has Bluetooth and you have 2 or more Wiimotes, I also have a script you can download that will allow you to play with a Wiimote. The release version of BB: LBS will be released as both a download and in Flash.

To use the Wiimote in BB: LBS, you need a program called GlovePIE and the BB GlovePIE script. This script allows for the connection of up to 4 Wiimotes. There are two Wiimote control modes. For the first, hold the Wiimote sideways and use the arrow keys to move left and right and the 2 button to jump. For the second, plug a Nunchuck into the Wiimote and use the joystick to move left and right and the A button to jump. Players without a Wiimote can still use the keyboard. You'll need Bluetooth on your computer. In addition to working with BB: LBS, the script should work for regular 1 player Baby Bounce.

BB Studios Games Tested with Flash for Android

Posted by jathak on August 21, 2010 at 5:19 PM Comments comments (0)

I was recently able to test a few BB Studios games on a Motorola DROID with Froyo and Flash beta installed.

Here is what I found:

-Baby Bounce (Touchscreen) worked fine but was often slow. I think I may add an option to stop the bubble animations to speed the game up.

-Jog-a-thon (Regular) ran faster than Baby Bounce but the Z and X keys would not adjust the speed.

-BookWorm (Regular) worked fine and ran very fast but was extremely hard to control. I will try to create touchscreen controls for BookWorm but this will take longer than adjustments for Baby Bounce and Jog-a-thon

Plans for MochiScores/Coins/Social have been put on hold until/if we get the Multimedia Fusion 2 upgrade from our current TGF2. Mobile optimized modes will be added to Jog-a-thon and Bookworm and the Baby Bounce touchscreen mode will be integrated into the main game. New graphics will be rolled out as my brother and sister create them.

Mac OS X Application... Sort of

Here are Flash Projectors for Mac OS X for Baby Bounce, BookWorm, and Jogathon:

Download

File size is about 18 MB. Unzip for 3 Mac OS X application packages. These DO contain MochiAds as they contain the same Flash file available online.

These files DO NOT update automatically through Mochi LiveUpdates. Updated applications will be available on a sporadic schedule depending on when I am willing to fire up my Hackintosh.

Flash Projectors for Windows will be coming as soon as I can get back to my own computer.

Native Windows applications (much more awesome) will be coming around the same time as the release of the Baby Bounce revamp.

I'm at camp right now and only have access to a Mac so I can't make the Windows Flash projectors or native applications now. If someone with a PC that knows how to create Flash projectors would like to create them for now, post them on the forums.

More Mochi For BB Studios

Posted by jathak on June 27, 2010 at 11:17 PM Comments comments (0)

Clickteam just released the new update to TGF2/MMF2 that includes more Mochi APIs for the Flash exporter.

Now we can use MochiCoins, MochiScores, and MochiSocial in our games.

The first game to use these will be Baby Bounce.

Here is what is planned for the Baby Bounce update:

-Brand new graphics by Dr007 (for the baby, the bubbles, carrots and background)

-MochiCoins options such as: new characters, new bubble/carrot graphics, new backgrounds.

-MochiScores leaderboards (now more off -site PHP highscore boards)

-MochiSocial integration. Not sure how little or much this will be used.

-No more sticking to walls and ceilings (unless you choose to enable it)

-Combination of Baby Bounce and Baby Bounce Touchscreen/Mobile into one Flash file.

-More TBA

This update should be due out late July-mid August however it could be earlier or later.

Also, Froyo will be coming to the Motorola Droid in late July so you will be able to play Baby Bounce on your Droid then.

If you have any comments or suggestions for the Baby Bounce revamp, post here.

Baby Bounce Mobile for Android Now Available!

Posted by jathak on June 5, 2010 at 5:16 PM Comments comments (1)

Head over to the Android games forum and click on the post titled: Game: Baby Bounce Mobile to try out the first BB Studios game with controls designed for a touchscreen. This game hasn't been tested on an Android device because I don't have a device with Froyo.

This will only work on Android if you have the 2.2 update and the Adobe Flash Player installed from the Marketplace. At the moment, I believe the update is only available to Nexus One users but it should be coming to other phones soon.

This game is also great if your computer has a touchscreen.

More touchscreen games coming soon!

Flash for Android!

Posted by jathak on May 25, 2010 at 10:31 PM Comments comments (11)

Google's new update for the Android mobile operating system (2.2 aka "Froyo") will include an optional Flash plugin. Because of this, I will start working on version of a couple of BB Studios games compatible with Android. The current versions won't work because they require the use of the keyboard (unless you have the Motorola Droid). Froyo will be released soon. The Froyo update for two of the most popular Android smartphones, the Motorola Droid (Verizon) and the Nexus One (various carriers) should come out in June.

More info coming soon.

NEW! Flash Arcade

Posted by jathak on May 21, 2010 at 11:07 PM Comments comments (0)

Just found out that Webs has a HeyZap arcade app to put on sites. Since our ads are done through Mochi, our games might take a while to make it to HeyZap. As soon as the game is on HeyZap, I'll add it to the arcade. If I can figure out the PHP and iframe stuff, I'll replace this arcade with one specifically designed for BB Studios.

What's Coming Soon to BB Studios

Posted by jathak on May 21, 2010 at 7:43 PM Comments comments (0)

I'm sorry for not posting an update in a while. I've been working on several projects and have put most BB Studios stuff on hold.

Here is what's coming to BB Studios soon:

Mochi Highscores/Mochi Coins (Flash only)- This depends on when the next update of TGF2/MMF2 is released that will include these two features. Mochi Highscores will allow easy highscore submitting with or without a Mochi account. Mochi Coins will allow premium upgrades for use within the game (requires a Mochi account).

More Games (Flash+Download)- I've recently been making several new games for my school paper and I will likely adapt a few of them for release here. I also have another game I'm working on called Cursor Quest.

BB Studios Online (Download only)- Unlike Baby Bounce Online, this is essentially a wrapper that should allow anyone within BB Studios to easily make their game an online game that runs within the wrapper. This is still experimental and more details will be coming soon.

More Toolbar Games- I'm starting to work on adapting more games into small versions that pop out from the BB Studios Toolbar like Baby Bounce Mini.

A Super Secret Super Surprise- It's super. It's a surprise and it's super secret.

More Games NOT from Me (Flash+Download)- As of right now TheBoss and Dr007 have no flash games right now (TheBoss did make BookWorm, but I was the one who adapted it for Flash). They also have few projects they are currently working on. However, as school ends, they should have some more time for BB Studios (hopefully).

Global Highscores On Hold

Posted by jathak on April 21, 2010 at 12:07 PM Comments comments (0)

I'm sorry, but I realize that there are a few kinks in the system that I am using for highscores. Rather than trying to dig through PHP and encryption, I am considering upgrading to MMF2 from TGF2. This version should give me enough to work with in order to create high score boards that don't require you to open a new browser window.

For those of you who go to my school, you can still use the global board set up for the version of Jog-a-thon that I have released for the school paper. (Link on SchoolLoop)
